THERE'S AN OPTION TO COME IN EARLY AND REST FROM YOUR TRAVEL DAY AT A HOTEL BY PHOENIX AIRPORT BEFORE WE HEAD OUT SUNDAY FOR THE 4 HOUR DRIVE THROUGH THE BEAUTIFUL DESERT TO THE BEACHSIDE TOWN OF PUERTO PENASCO. HERE, IN OUR GORGEOUS FOUR STAR RESORT ON THE SHORES OF THE SEA OF CORTEZ, WE WILL SPEND SIX DAYS AND FIVE NIGHTS BASKING IN THE SUN AND ENJOYING SONGWRITER SHOWS FROM MANY OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS. Get yourself to Phoenix Airport (PHX) and we'll take it from there! Rocky Point is an easy and very safe drive from the Southwestern US through the breathtaking Sonoran desert down to the cobalt blue of the Sea of Cortez. Many of our festival goers choose to make the drive on their own (4hr from Phoenix/Tucson and 5hr from San Diego) but if you'd rather sit back and enjoy the ride, we have professional door to door shuttle service available.
Our host hotel is Penasco Del Sol. In every detail, this property captures the essence of this luxurious tropical Mexican paradise. Blessed with sweeping sunset views, a world class restaurant and casino on site, a large heated pool with swim up bar and hot tub and many other delightful amenities. The hotel is within walking distance of many of the most popular restaurants, shops and bars in town and is a surprisingly incredible value.
After many years of the festival, we have found the best locations to host our top notch talent. With daily round trip hop on/hop off transport from the hotel included, we've made it very easy to get out and explore the town and catch the songwriters up close and personal. Each of our venues is private for our guests and offer drink and food specials. Every show is a "listening room" style to insure the best performance possible...you'll love it!

SATURDAY APRIL 5 - Early bird arrivals
Come in early on Saturday and get your vacation started! We have selected a nice hotel not far from the Phoenix airport with shuttle service to make your arrival after a long travel day as easy as possible. Though we don’t have any specific plans for Saturday night, there’s a good chance we’ll be getting the vacation started early for those who choose to get the travel out of the way on Saturday (when flights are usually cheaper). Choose this option on your order form and we’ll make all the arrangements for you and bill you at a later date (once we have a total of rooms for the group discount). We will not personally be on property until Saturday night, but we can arrange the shuttle and rooms and take care of all the planning so you only need to worry about having fun!
SUNDAY APRIL 6- Phoenix) to Puerto Penasco
If you're driving on your own to the festival Sunday, plan on joining up with us in Phoenix (location TBA) to join our caravan. We'll make the four hour drive from the PHX area through the breathtaking Sonoran desert together with some stops along the way to our host hotel-Penasco Del Sol in Rocky Point/Puerto Penasco. We'll have the VIP shuttles as well as all the locals who'll be driving their own cars down....it's a Cannonball rum run, SOB style!
If you are arriving to PHX airport on Sunday, you'll want to book the earliest flight possible and we will connect you to our professional shuttle service for a separate group you'll be riding down with. Please try your best to arrive at PHX before noon.
Sunday night we will get started with the party on the grounds of Penasco Del Sol with our SOB kickoff party!
MONDAY APRIL 7- Pool Party and Evening Show at Margarita Mermaids
Enjoy your first day of vacation under the Sonoran Sun and drink it up at the swim up bar while getting to know your fellow SOB's. We will have a pool side performance by one of our artists as you sip boat drinks in paradise…a perfect afternoon of fun under the Sonoran sun!
Monday night we will head to Margarita Mermaid's for a night time music dinner show by Mike Nash!
TUESDAY APRIL 8- Dia De Las Borachos!!
Tuesday begins with a Booze Cruise on the Sea of Cortez. We’ll board the SS SOB to get the “day of the drunks” started by enjoying a relaxing two hour cruise along the shores of Rocky Point (included). Snacks and all drinks are included (limited selection). This will be the perfect way to get your day started, but save some gas in the tank because after the cruise we’re off to hit as many bars as possible for the day drinking extravaganza we’ve dubbed Dia De Las Borachos. We’ll start on the Malecon and make our way through town hitting Manny’s Beach Club, Bandito’s, Wrecked at the Reef, and if our livers hold out long enough, we’ll finish in Choyo Bay at JJ’s Cantina. There are, of course, plenty of opportunities to throw in the towel and head back to the hotel, but rest assured you’re probably gonna hear it from the rest of the SOB’s!
We’ll return to the hotel in the evening for a much needed night off and usually a laid back guitar circle in the courtyard for any who want to join.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 9- Oyster Farm and Bandito’s Party
Wednesday we’ll head over to the El Barco Ostioneria (Oyster Farm) for a laid back afternoon of friends, oysters, beer and a special performance from one of our artists. They do serve other seafood and standard fare if oysters aren’t your thing. This is the first all female owned co-op oyster farm in all of Mexico and they will offer an included tour of how the oysters are grown. It’s a breathtaking spot and a great “chill” afternoon in the middle of the SOB madness.
We will head to Bandito's Wednesday in the late afternoon for a happy hour show with Mike Nash and other artists and then return to the hotel to see what pops up Wednesday night!
THURSDAY APRIL 10-Free Day and Penasco Fiasco Finale w/ Mike Nash & Mark Mulligan
We’ve kept the final day of your vacation open to have a vacation from your vacation! There will be a shuttle running to Rodeo Drive where you can spend the afternoon shopping if you choose, hit the Tequila Factory for a tour and tasting, or just relax in the pool under the Sonoran sun for your final day.
Thursday evening we’ll have our headline sunset performance with Mike Nash and Mark Mulligan at the hotel veranda at sunset. An unforgettable day!
FRIDAY APRIL 11- Run for the Border!.
Well unfortunately all good things must come to an end, but we know you’ll leave with the great memories we’ve made and a whole new appreciation for the people and places of small town Mexico in your heart. You’ll also hopefully have some brand new tunes running through your head from all of the new artists you’ve met throughout the week. Thanks for coming South Of the Border with us!
IF YOU ARE TAKING OUR VANS: please try and book your flight from PHX at 4pm or later as the vans will be leaving the hotel at 10am and should arrive to PHX by 2-2:30pm. Though we cannot guarantee any times with the border crossing, it is safe to estimate they will have you back to PHX airport by 2:30ish at the latest and Friday’s going north are typically much faster days to cross the border so please book your flight accordingly.
DRIVING ON YOUR OWN: please note that check out time from the hotel is noon. Friday’s going north are typically much faster at the Lukeville border crossing so you can reasonably make it to PHX or TUC airports in 4 to 4 1/2 hours. It's about 5 hours back to San Diego but Mexicali and Yuma border crossings can be a considerable wait if you don’t hit them before rush hour, so plan accordingly if you don’t have a SENTRI pass.
PACKAGES AND ROOM TYPES
Our Master Suite Patio and Master Suite with Balcony festival packages are Sunday April 6 to Friday April 11th with a suite- either ground level with patio or 2nd floor and above with balcony (hotel has elevator). These rooms have one king bed plus a separate sleeper sofa in the living room, full kitchen including a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker, and a king bed in a separate bedroom. They are very well appointed and also come with ocean front views.
All of our hotel guests will receive VIP status which includes reserved seating at the shows and unlimited access to our hop on/hop off in town shuttles as well as admittance to Tuesday's Booze Cruise for two persons.

PHOENIX TO RP ROUND TRIP TRANSPORTATION
Please choose this option on your order form if you will be using our partner shuttles from Phoenix to Rocky point (round trip). These will be in 15 passenger transport vans unless we get enough people to fill a 55 passenger bus at which point we will automatically upgrade you.
**NOTE: we will not have this total until closer to the event. For now, please just click the box to let us know you'll need transport
