Add on- Waterfalls, Jungle Hike and Sloth Sanctuary Excursion
$150 per person
Join us for your very first full day (Friday May 23rd) packed full of some of the treasures which make Costa Rica so unique. We’ll head out from the hotel in the morning after breakfast for the Cortez Waterfall. There, we’ll hike the concrete (with handrail) down the side of a mountain to reach the falls below. Here, you’ll have time to swim and explore the falls and get that perfect photo before we ascend back to the changing rooms up top and load the bus for the second stop. We’ll head deeper into the countryside to visit Rio Celeste and Tenorio Volcano National Park. Here, we’ll hike the three mile round trip on a dirt/mud trail over rocks and jungle vegetation to the bottom of the mountain to view the falls. This is where the Rio Celeste River’s converge to form a breathtaking, sky-blue waterfall surrounded by the lush green cloud forest…it’s a sight to behold!
After about a two and a half hour, round trip hike, we’ll load the buses and head down the street for lunch (included) at an authentic Tico mom-n-pop restaurant. After lunch we’ll head to the Sloth and animal sanctuary for a short and easy one hour hike through the property. Here we’ll encounter a variety of birds, snakes, lizards and frogs in their natural habitat (no fences or plexiglass here) and get to view sloths up close and personal. In 2024, we happened to hit at the perfect time to witness a baby sloth moving from the tree, down the path literally steps from the group, and across to the jungle…it was incredible! …but of course, we can’t promise it’ll ever happen again lol.
After about an hour at the sanctuary, we’ll head back to the hotel by dinner time and enjoy a night off to share the memories of the day!
Most of our group will be able to handle the moderate hiking and climbing involved in this excursion, but unfortunately it is not recommended for those with mobility issues. You can, however, use the day to book a trip to the local zoo where you’ll encounter all of the indigenous animals that call Costa Rica home…it’s still a wonderful way to get into the spirit of the adventure and stay safe doing it!
